Blyth

Blyth Institute

Harley Street, Blyth, South Australia, 1893-1909.

The District Council established the Institute in 1893. At this time only the rear of the present building was built. A library was opened in 1900. The Institute committee added the main section to the front in 1904 to accommodate the Blyth District Council Chambers, and further extended the building in 1909. In consideration of this, the Council handed the building over to the Institute Committee in 1933, but the subsequent demise of the Institute saw its return to the Council.
