Emu Park

Emu Park 2

The School of Arts was established in the building on the corner of Hall and Archer Streets which had served as the post office.  Three trustees were appointed, and the deed for the land granted on the basis that it would revert to the Crown if no longer required for a school of arts. When the library opened in 1902, it had 1,145 books, mostly donated by local identities. The caretaker/librarian was given rent-free accommodation in return for her services. Fund-raising enabled the construction of a dance hall adjoining the library in 1921. The school of arts was still operating in 1974.
