Military Road, Grange, 1898.
Built of stone rubble with dressed stone for the quoins and window surrounds, this institute is one of only three which still operated in South Australia in 2002.
The building, which was financed by a local baker with a loan to be repaid from fund raising activities, was held in Trust. A group of Grange residents established the Institute library with a collection of 50 books in 1901. The Institute was entitled to government grants and supply of books. Social events, public lectures and slide shows were held regularly. The Grange Institute became incorporated in 1988 and has operated the library without government assistance, supporting itself from subscriptions and rental income from part of the premises.
