John Tytherleigh donated the land in 1921 to be held in trust for a school of arts. The timber building constructed in 1927 was the centre for local activities ranging from dances, and stage performances to film screenings. Local volunteers incorporated a management committee to run the hall in 1993, and it has continued to provide a venue for local groups. A library continued to operate in a front room of the building for many years.
