Institute (1883-84) and Post and Telegraph Office (1884), 164-176 Tynte Street, North Adelaide,
The first floor of the Institute provided a reading room and committee rooms; the ground floor accommodated offices, hall, library and assembly room. The hall located at the rear was built in stone with brick trim. The main construction was done in salmon coloured brick with cement rendered trim.
The first floor of the Post Office provided residential accommodation for the Post Master, and the ground floor provided space for offices, and postal, telegraphic, and telephonic services.
The two buildings form a sympathetic unit. Although built in the same materials as the Institute, the frontage of the Post and Telegraph Office is recessed and has a different cornice and parapet. Provision was made for a clock in the centre of the parapet. The Institute has several classical features including pilasters and pediment.
